Online simulations

Over recent months WSP has developed a new capability in being able create an interactive interface for clients' models on the web as a means of making them more accessible to a wider range of project participants.

We have created some open examples for you to explore by entering your own data and seeing the impact on the system.

Example 1. Reductions in occupied bed days for unplanned care

This model provides an indication for a typical PCT population of the number of occupied bed days for unplanned admissions by 2007/08 based on current projections for unplanned care admissions and demographic changes. It then allows for an adjustment of these basic assumptions and the addition of a chronic disease management service which both avoids hospital admission and reduces length of stay for CDM clients who are admitted. Your mission (without the choice not to accept it) is to achieve a 5% reduction by 2007/08.

Click here to try out the model.

Example 2. Alternatives to Residential Care

This model seeks to explore the relationship between length of stay, admission rates and occupancy levels in Intensive Home Care (IHC) and Residential Home (RH) on the introduction of a new strategy that invests in IHC as an alternative to RH.

Click here to try out the model (please allow a delay of up to 20 seconds whilst it loads).

Background information (MS Word, 77K).

Example 3. Online learning environment

We have also experimented with developing an online learning environment to add intelligence around commissioning services for older people with long term conditions. We would be interested to hear your views about this.

A future development is likely to be the option of an online interface for clients that looks very much like the iThink version of their models.
